Yoga in the Woods offers a wide range of classes to meet the needs of each student, beginner through advanced. Scent, sound and temperature are combined to make the student's experience with yoga beneficial for the mind, body and soul. Teachers Yoga in the Woods dedicated teaching staff looks forward to sharing their love of yoga with you. Our instructors come from many different walks of life, thus bringing their own style of teaching and expertise to their classes. We are proud to have Maureen Bosker, R.N., R.Y.T., Maria Burnash, P.T.A., R.Y.T., Courtney Pond, N.C.T.M.B., Reiki Master III, Heather Rosencrantz, Steve Althoen and Stephanie Duffy as members of our staff.
Maureen Bosker's years of experience as a registered nurse and over eight years of yoga study has given her a deep knowledge and appreciation for the practice of yoga. She has been fortunate to train with many of her yoga mentors, including K. Pattabhi Jois., Beryl Bender Birch, Kathy McNames, David Swenson, Bryan Kest, Dharma Mittra, David Life and Sharon Gannon. Maria Burnash is a trained physical therapist assistant and has studied yoga with K. Pattabhi Jois., Beryl Bender Birch, Kathy McNames, David Swenson, Manjou Jois, Bryan Kest, and Dharma Mittra. She teaches a wide variety of classes from Gentle Hatha to the more aggressive and sweaty practice of Astanga. Courtney Pond brings a knowledge of body anatomy and alignment with energy flow to her students, by combining her Reiki and massage therapy experience with her yoga practice and teaching. Courtney has studied with Beryl Bender Birch, David Life, Sharon Gannon, Bryan Kest and completed 40 hour teacher training with Kathy McNames. Steve Althoen has practiced hatha yoga for seven years, always as a spiritual practice. He has studied Bhakti (devotional) yoga and attended workshops on kirtan (bhakti chanting) with Krishna Das, David Stringer, and Russill Paul. Steve has completed a course in vipassana meditation through the Insight Meditation Society and a 40 hour teacher training with Kathy McNames. Astanga Yoga Classes Primary Series Instructors lead students through the traditional Primary Series. This class is instructed as close to the traditional method, taught by K. Pattabhi Jois, as possible. Powerful poses flow together and are combined with a controlled rhythmic breathing. Class ends with Savasana (resting pose) and our famous neck rub. Vinyasa Flow This is a one hour kick your asana class. It will challenge your muscles and use a few pilates moves to help strengthen your core. This class will be set to lively music and will create a moving meditation almost like a dance. For those of you who suffer from allergies or asthma, this class will not have any burning candles or incense and no external heat source. You will be creating your own!!! Second Series On the 1st & 3rd of the month you will flow through this traditional Astanga Second Series and on the 2nd & 4th of the month you will learn this challenging sequencing of postures through teaching methodology. Long, Slow & Deep A deep and potent alternative to vinyasa and flowing hatha yoga classes. This practice will challenge you not only physically, but mentally. No incense or scented candles asthmatics welcome. Perfect for all experience levels. Sweet Vinyasa Flow This is a powerful series with a focus on breath and bandhas. Class begins with a time of quiet reflection as you slowly begin to introduce movement into your body with a deep awareness of slow repetitive movements. This practice will allow you the opportunity to experience mental clarity, energy and peacefulness that can be obtained through mindful breathing. Physical strength as well as flexibility are realized through this gentle yoga class. Perfect for all experience levels. Jnana Yoga Classes Jnana Yoga, the path of Self-awareness, is the mind's attempt to understand the storm of life and the calm eye of the Inner Self. The class includes guided meditation, chanting, and a discussion of ideas to help awakening the Self.
